Introducing One Couple, One Lawyer Separations

Choose harmony over hostility
We are excited to introduce a new service that allows separating couples to resolve matters together with the help of a single lawyer. This new approach lets you seek legal advice jointly instead of each having your own separate solicitors meaning you can save cost, time and conduct your separation more amicably.
Expert guidance from a family law specialist
The service, called Resolution Together, is provided by our Head of Family Law Mark Chapman. Mark has nearly 20 years of experience working within this area and is keen to apply his expertise and offer this new way for couples to separate. We’ve noticed a growing demand for assistance from both spouses together, and this new method aligns with our commitment to constructive and amicable resolutions.
Is this the right model for you?
While we are thrilled to offer this new service, it’s important to note that it may not be suitable for everyone. You both need to be fully committed to resolving matters consensually and jointly. You must provide informed consent and ensure there is no imbalance of power or vulnerability between you. If such issues arise, this model may not be appropriate.
Handling disagreements during the process
If disagreements occur, either of you may need to seek independent legal advice. You can then return to the joint model to try and resolve the remaining issues. If this isn’t possible, we will recommend alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation.
Difference between Resolution Together and mediation
Resolution Together differs from mediation. Mediation is a confidential process aimed at resolving disputes with a mediator's help. Resolution Together focuses on both of you resolving your difficulties consensually with joint legal advice to achieve a fair outcome.
Addressing financial and child arrangements
You can use the one couple one lawyer model for financial matters related to your marriage breakdown. If there are disagreements about child arrangements, you can mediate those separately while resolving financial matters together.
Collaboration with local professionals
Our family law department has strong relationships with local professionals, including financial advisors and pension experts. These experts can provide joint reports and assist in the resolution process.
Continuing support for individuals
We continue to support individuals, whether on a voluntary basis via solicitors, or assisting clients when they are mediating. We also remind you that court remains an option if other methods fail to resolve the dispute.
Contact us for a free 30 minute consultation
If you think the one couple one lawyer model could help you, we offer a free initial 30-minute meeting to understand your situation. This meeting is held individually with each of you before setting up a joint session. During the first joint meeting, we will outline the process and provide an estimate of legal costs.
